A Tribute to America’s Search and Rescue Dogs

A Tribute to America’s Search and Rescue Dogs

Hi!

Those of you following the Daily Pretzel know that our dear Sarah is now on full time mommy duty.  Heidi Sachner will be joining us in posting for the Perseus Distribution publishers in September.  We didn’t want you to miss out on the wonderful stories that document the historical and noble efforts of our canine patriots.

Dog Heroes of September 11th: A Tribute to America’s Search and Rescue Dogs by Nona Kilgore Bauer

Released for the tenth anniversary of 9/11, this book commemorates the lives of the dog heroes that participated in the disaster as well as the contributions of their handlers.  This expanded 2nd edition revisits the owners of these rescue dogs and includes their memories of the 9/11 attacks.  It also introduces readers to new rescue dogs who have participated in more recent rescue efforts ranging from Hurricane Katrina to other emergencies throughout the country, and features dogs currently working in the War on Terror, including bomb dogs in Iraq, and Marine search dogs.

Originally published in 2006, Dog Heroes of September 11th was the Dog Writer’s Association of America Book of the Year in 2007 and was endorsed by the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation.  Dog Heroes has donated over $50,000 to the foundation, contributing to the organization’s continued growth in the US.
