Three Percent has recognized author Yuri Herrera and translator Lisa Dillman for their tremendous work producing Signs Preceding the End of the World with And Other Stories! The novel swept the fiction category to take the 2016 Best Translated Book Award! The Millions announced the news on May 4, noting that Herrera is the first Spanish-language writer to win the award for fiction. In his argument for why Signs Preceding the End of the World should win the award, Stephen Sparks of Green Apple Books praised the literal and symbolic borders discussed in the novel, which he called “accomplished both structurally and linguistically,” and ended by saying, “The fact that it so clearly and powerfully speaks to the state of migrants today renders it all the more powerful.” The winners, judges, and honorees celebrated the award during BEA at a party hosted at 57th Street Books in Chicago on May 11. Herrera and Dillman have teamed up for the second time for the English translation of Herrera’s new novel The Transmigration of Bodies, which And Other Stories will publish on July 5.
