The Cat and the Fiddle

The Cat and the Fiddle

Since we’ve been on the topic of wonderfully illustrated picture books with the announcement of the New York Times Best Illustrated Books of 2011, it seems appropriate to talk about Jackie Morris and her latest title. Jackie Morris has a few books with Frances Lincoln, all lovely stories paired with her signature watercolor paintings. The Cat and the Fiddle: A Treasury of Nursery Rhymes is the new addition to her list and for anyone looking for a fresh new look at the old classics from Hickory, Dickory, Dock to Hey Diddle, Diddle (and even not-so familiar rhymes), this is worth picking up. “A beguiling and surprising addition to the nursery-rhyme shelf.” notes a recent starred review from Kirkus Reviews! “Every image is arresting” the reviewer comments, “…illustrated with gorgeous and evocative images”.
