Kitchen on Fire! Mastering the Art of Cooking in 12 Weeks (or Less) 

From the owners of Berkeley’s famed Kitchen on Fire! cooking school, comes the “Hooked on Phonics” of cooking—how to become an excellent home chef in 12 basic lessons. 

I have been doing a lot of cooking and baking these last few weeks and with one recipe I felt like I needed a quick update on some basic cooking techniques- I asked Santa and was given The Way to Cook by Julia Child – recently one of my colleagues mentioned that she really liked  Kitchen on Fire

Kitchen on Fire by Olivier Said and Chef MikeC  is broken down into 15 chapters-

The book is based on Kitchen on Fire’s wildly popular 12-week Basics series, which takes beginners through everything from knife skills to stocks, meats, breads, and desserts, culminating in an Iron Chef-type of challenge. Chefs Olivier and MikeC. go beyond just teaching recipes, exploring the techniques that are the foundations for all recipes. By understanding what’s “under the hood” of a recipe (what makes it work), you can pull off perfection every time. The book gives both basic science and proper cooking methods that will make all cooking a breeze, from quick weeknight family meals to entertaining for a crowd.

I am looking forward to testing out the techniques from Kitchen on Fire as well as Julia Child’s book- I’ll let you know what I learn.
